Brandt donated the funds in response to the growing need in New Jersey for mental health services for young people, and the university immediately used the money to establish the Rutgers Initiative for Youth Behavioral Health and Well-Being. The program aims to bring research, learning, and innovation to the field in diverse communities, including a focus on underrepresented and underserved groups. Specific uses for the funds include building a new Treatment Center and Residence as well as an Institute for Social Emotional Wellness at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.
